Metrics and YOUR data using the ranking effectively

Metrics and YOUR data â€" using the ranking effectively So in JibberJobber there are various places that you could measure the strength of certain things using a five-star system. I want to talk about this a little as Ive had discussions and chats with users and have been impressed by the creativity, but also by the fact that I need to communicate what my intentions are with ranking. The image on the right is just a snippet of my personal JibberJobber list panel Im a little surprised that by defaultI have so many high ranking contacts in this one little shot because I usually reserve the four and five stars for strong, strong relationships. Notice the second colum is DoS degrees of separation that is, is this someone that I know or met on my own (1), or someone that a network contact introduced me to (2). The bottom line, though, is that the rankings are loose enough so that you can use them the way you need to hopefully Im not restricting the functionality. The idea of the ranking came early on as I was learning a key issue in networking that having a network is much more than just a directory with contact information. How cool would it be to know how strong your relationship is with each contact? That way you could view your network by those that would step out of a board meeting to talk with you (five-star), and someone that may not even remember who you are (zero or one-star). Note that ranking a network contact is in the free version, since its such a critical part of career management. Taking it one step further, what if you can set goals to improve those relationships? Well, of course you can do that in JibberJobber (premium version). Its simple to say take 30% of my network (or, certain categories within my network), and bump them up to the next rank within 30 days or, take 40% of my one-star contacts and move to to at least two-star within 45 days whatever you need. Its a great way to proactively manage your relationships. That was the intention of ranking but when I was doing JibberJobber training a few months ago I had two other users that told me how they used it and both ideas were fine! Actually, if you notice, I dont call it relationship rank I leave it open so the rank can mean whatever you need it to mean. There is also ranking in other areas of the system ranking a job that you are tracking, ranking a company, etc. Here are some of the different things that ranking can mean I think that any are viable, but just be consistent or else it can lead to confusion: network contact the strength of the relationship network contact how strong I want the relationship to be network contact how important (powerful) this person could be (or is) to my network/career job how likely it is that I will get this job job how bad I want the job job how qualified I am for this job company how cool this company is company how closely this company matches what I want/need company how bad I want to work at this company company obviously, whether I like this company or not (if you get pink-slipped, and have bad feelings toward the company, recognize that you are in a position to be a connector and help others learn more about the company and that your contacts there are more important than your feelings about it so put your old companies in JibberJobber, even if you give them one measly little star ;)) These are just some simple ideas Id love to know how you use the ranking leave a comment here or e-mail me offlist. It can be easy to skip a meal or grab something convenient from the street vendor. This can lead to rapid weight gain. With no time to exercise, it is all too easy to lose our figures. So what can we do about it when we are in the office for long hours every day? Despite an early start, it is essential you start the day right. Breakfast will kick start your metabolism and reduce your reliance on espressos later in the day. Get up thirty minutes earlier, even if it’s still dark. A bowl of whole grain cereal with a glass of milk can get you going in no time. That extra thirty minutes may even give you a chance to walk to the corner shop and grab a newspaper! Now you’ve started the day right, you can use your time at the office to keep your body moving. Raise your chair a little so your feet are no longer planted on the ground. Now you have the space to wiggle those feet about. You can tone your calves and improve the flexibility of your ankles with simple turns. To get your feet back on the floor, perch on the edge of the chair. Now keep your back perfectly straight to improve your posture. You can now march your feet, raising your knees until they touch the desk. This little movement keeps the circulation flowing in your legs and burns off calories. There is usually no time for lunch at the office. This isn’t the worst meal to skip, but it does mean you can be running light on important nutrients for your body. When you’re trying to lose weight, a lack of nutrition means you’re unlikely to succeed. You can buy Lipoden or other weight loss support systems to ensure you have the best chance at getting that body shape back. In an office environment, there are plenty of ways to increase your physical activity. Stand up during meetings, and always take the stairs. Drink more water so you have to pop to the bathroom more frequently. If you’re waiting for something, do a circuit of the floor until it is ready. Make it a habit of speaking to people in person, even if you still have to back up the information in an email. Why not catch up on your emails on a mobile device while you take a walk around the grounds? Take lunch in with you each day, to include a couple of pieces of fruit. Even if you can’t get away from your desk, it keeps your metabolism going to eat something at lunch. When you get home after a tiring day, it can be tempting to order in. Skipping the meal isn’t really an option as it could prevent you from sleeping well. Why not batch cook on the weekend? You can freeze and then reheat a healthy home-cooked meal. Try not to veg in front of the TV for longer than half an hour before bed. Use the rest of the time to take a walk or do some home Yoga. Sleep well, and repeat tomorrow.

How to praise yourself at work - and how NOT to - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Is it OK to praise yourself at work? Could?you tell a coworker?something like Hey, let me tell you what I just did it was AWESOME! Is it OK to?send an email to the rest of your team to proudly share ?that you found a creative solution to a tough problem? Can you take a little?time in a project meeting to tell others about that task?you just completed on time and under budget? Most people are reluctant to do that. They dont want to seem arrogant or boastful or like they have a big head.?But if you ask me, its perfectly OK to be proud of the good work you do AND to share that pride with others. Just as an example, If Ive given a speech that I felt went REALLY well (which happens all the time?these days) I share that with my coworkers. I tell them what happened and what it was that worked so well. However, self-praise can become really annoying if you do it wrong :) Here are 8 tips?for praising yourself at work: 1:?Only praise yourself when youve earned it Just like any other praise, self-praise must be earned. You must?have done something awesome before you praise yourself, otherwise its completely meaningless. 2:?Share the praise If you praise yourself for something youve done together with others, then you must include them in the praise. In that case you dont say Im awesome, you say Were awesome. 3:?Dont always only praise yourself Its no good if you always only praise yourself and never recognize others. Its required of all of us self-praisers that were especially?good at acknowledging the cool things others do. 4:?Admit your mistakes too If youre good at praising yourself when you rock, you should be the first to admit when you suck, apologize for your mistakes and be willing to learn from them and improve. People who can only see the good they do and completely overlook?their own flaws ?invite nothing but scorn and contempt. In fact, why not celebrate your mistakes? 5:?Praise yourself with genuine enthusiasm When you praise yourself, do it with an honest infectious enthusiasm. Its OK to be proud of yourself. Its OK to have a smile on your face, a spring in your step and pride in your voice when you share your accomplishments. In fact, it will be received more positively by others than if you do it with false humility. 6: Moderation in all things It goes without saying that anything can be overdone including self-praise. Dont overdo it. 7:?Practice, practice, practice Practice makes perfect. Its banal but true. Try it, see what works and then improve from there. 8:?Be ready to face skepticism Praise is sorely lacking from many workplace including self-praise. This may lead to skepticism and resistance from others if you start doing?it. If this happens, consider carefully if the criticism is because youve gone too far in which case you should listen to it or if its simply that people are not used to it in which case you should continue doing it. Why you should praise yourself We can see four?major advantages of self-praise. First, when you share your successes, others can learn?from?your best practices and maybe apply them themselves. Secondly, genuine enthusiasm is infectious. When you share something that made you happy, others?become a little happier too. Thirdly, you can inspire others to also share their victories, so the whole team becomes better at sharing what works, to the benefit of all. And finally, if you are good at praising yourself, youre not as dependent on receiving praise from others. As Spencer Tracy put it: It is up to us to give ourselves recognition. If we wait for it to come from others, we feel resentful when it doesn?t, and when it does, we may well reject it. Whats Your Value Proposition

Whats Your Value Proposition For those who have been in the world of sales and marketing, value proposition is fairly common. It means in short, what will I get if I invest in this product or service? or Whats in it for me (WIIFM)! As you know, you are now in a position of selling your own services. So, whats your value proposition? You will have to start by answering these 3 questions. They are not easy to answer, but worth investing effort in trying. 1) Exactly how will your employer benefit financially from hiring you? This means what problems have you solved, what success have you had, what processes or procedures have you developed or streamlined? Youve had to develop accomplishment stories, so look for re-occurring patterns here. 2) What special experience or credentials do you bring to the table? Are you a Six Sigma Black Belt? Have you mastered some cutting edge technology? Think about the experiences that are unique to you that a future employer would be impressed by. 3) What additional talents and expertise do you have? Have you held a role in a professional organization? Do you have a related side interest you practice? If you were to put these 3 answers together, it may sound like: I have a passion fordeveloping new and improved products which have added millions of dollars to the profits of manufacturing companies. I have over 10 years of experience in operations and management. I bring extensive experience in implementing next practices within manufacturing environments to continuously improve the quality and breadth of products. I am known as a Lean manufacturing go to person and advise others in creative solutions. Out of this, can you create a tag-line? A short snippet that will capture the attention of a listener and ideally be remembered? It is probably part of your elevator pitch too. I am the lean go to gal providing new and improved products worth millions in profits for past companies. Shorter and sweeter tag line for the resume and marketing plan Delivering new and improved productsutilizing lean and next practices increasing profits of over $2.5 million Here are a couple of other tag lines to mirror: Quality focused operations leader known for analytical problem solving and building relationshipsto successfully create profit-driven performance International Operations Manager in a manufacturing environment with significant responsibility for identifying business strengths and weaknesses Contributing significant impact to profitability of products through foresight and planning of operating standards and procedures
